How to Choose the Best Paint for Your Home
The best paint is the one that goes on a finished, primed wall in a sheen the room can handle. Color is last. Trends are optional.

Choose in This Order
1. Finish the drywall
Tape, texture, or Level 4 / 5. Paint will not hide a ridge. Finishing →
2. Prime
New mud and paper drink color differently. Seal first. Primers →
3. Pick sheen by room
Flat hides. Gloss reports every joint. Sheen by room →
4. Then pick color
Test a large swatch on the actual wall in daylight. Side light changes everything. Lighting →
Type of Paint
Interior latex / acrylic is the usual choice on drywall. Oil is rarely the first pick on new interior walls. Specialty coatings do not replace taping. Paint types →

How Much Paint?
A gallon often covers roughly 350–400 square feet of a smooth, primed wall — less on texture and dark colors. Measure twice. Leftover is cheaper than a short gallon mid-room.
