Fix the Leak First. Then Fix the Wall.

New drywall will fail if water is still coming in. Stop the plumbing, roof, or window leak and let the framing dry. Then we replace the stained or soft board and finish it to match.

Ron Hogan Drywall has been family-owned since 1970. We are a licensed drywall contractor, not a flood-restoration franchise. You get the wall rebuilt correctly after the water problem is under control.

Signs Your Drywall Needs More Than Paint

Stains and Discoloration

Brown rings on ceilings and walls after a roof, bath, or supply-line leak.

Soft or Crumbling Board

If the wall gives when you press it, the gypsum is compromised and should come out.

Bubbling Paint or Sag

Paint that blisters, tape that lets go, or a ceiling that droops after water sat in the board.

Musty Odor

A persistent smell after a leak can mean hidden moisture. The damaged drywall still needs to come out once the area is dry.

Our Drywall Repair Process After Water Damage

  1. Look at the stained area, the texture, and whether the board is still soft.
  2. Confirm the leak is stopped and the cavity is dry enough for new board.
  3. Cut out damaged drywall. Leave a clean, solid edge.
  4. Hang new board — moisture-resistant in baths, laundry rooms, and other wet areas when it belongs there.
  5. Tape, finish, and match knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, or a smooth finish.

Typical drywall replacement on a contained leak takes about 1–3 days after the area is dry. Larger ceiling or multi-room damage takes longer. We give you a timeline after we see it.

What We Do — and What Comes First

We replace and finish water-damaged walls and ceilings. If water is still active, call a plumber or roofer first. If the damage is widespread or you suspect a serious mold problem, that may need a specialist before new drywall goes in.

Painting over a stain does not fix wet board. The stain usually returns. Cut it out, hang new drywall, and finish it right. See all drywall repair →

Insurance Estimates

Many homeowners policies cover sudden water damage. Coverage depends on your policy and the cause of the leak. We can give you a clear, itemized drywall estimate you can submit with a claim. We do not adjust claims or promise what an insurer will pay.

Water Damage Drywall FAQs

Can I just paint over the stain?

Not if the board is wet or soft. Paint hides the mark for a while. The stain and the weak gypsum usually come back. Replace the damaged drywall.

Do you extract standing water?

We are a drywall contractor. Stop the leak and dry the space first. Then we remove ruined board and finish the new wall.

Will you match my texture?

Yes. We match knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, and smooth finishes after the new board is up. Finishing details →

Does insurance cover this?

Often for sudden leaks, not always for long-term seepage. We can provide an itemized drywall estimate for your claim.
