What Knockdown Texture Is
Knockdown is a sprayed texture that is flattened with a trowel while it is still soft. The peaks knock down into a mottled, slightly flattened pattern. It hides small imperfections better than a dead-flat wall and looks more current than popcorn.
The hard part is matching what is already in the house. A repair that is too heavy or too light reads as a patch from across the room. Ron Hogan Drywall has been family-owned since 1970. We match the existing knockdown or apply a consistent new texture on a full wall or ceiling.

How We Apply It
- Look at the existing texture and lighting in the room.
- Finish the joints so the base is sound before texture goes on.
- Apply knockdown and flatten it to match the size and depth already on the wall.
- Leave the surface ready for primer and paint.
Send a close-up photo of the current texture. That is the fastest way to quote a match.
Knockdown vs. Other Finishes
- Orange peel — finer spray, no knockdown step. Smaller bumps.
- Skip trowel — hand-applied, more variation, more “plaster” look.
- Level 4 / Level 5 smooth — no texture. Best when you want modern flat walls and the lighting can handle it.

Can you match the knockdown already in my house?
Yes. Matching existing knockdown is a large part of repair and addition work. A photo of the current texture helps us quote it.
Is knockdown better than smooth?
It hides more. Smooth Level 4 or Level 5 looks more modern but shows lighting flaws. Choose based on the rest of the house and the light in the room.
Should I texture knockdown myself?
