Texture match or a true smooth wall. We tape, coat, and finish Salinas homes from Fairfield — knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, Level 4, or Level 5. An Oldtown bungalow next to a rebuild kitchen will show if we guess the pattern.

Finishing We Do in Salinas
Tape, mud, and sand
Joints and fasteners coated the right number of times. This is the work under every texture and every smooth wall.
Texture match
A kitchen, addition, or rebuild that has to look like the knockdown, orange peel, or plaster already in the house — including Oldtown bungalows and North Salinas ranches. Textures →
Level 4 smooth
The usual painted wall under flat or eggshell in normal light. Most bedrooms and hallways live here.
Level 5 skim
Full-field skim for dark paint, higher sheen, original windows, or a South Salinas room with hard sidelight. Framing has to be straight first. Level 4 & 5 →
Popcorn off, new finish on
Remove older ceiling texture on 1950s–70s East Salinas and Sherwood Gardens stock, repair the board, then knockdown, orange peel, or smooth. A common Salinas ranch scope. Popcorn removal →
Repair that disappears
Water cuts, holes, and cracks finished to the surrounding texture. Occupied houses and apartments included. Repair →
Which Texture Belongs on a Salinas Wall
| Finish | Use it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|---|
| Match existing | Kitchen, addition, or rebuild meeting an Oldtown bungalow, a South Salinas Craftsman, or a North Salinas ranch | The whole house is going smooth on purpose |
| Knockdown | Mid-century rooms in East Salinas, Sherwood Gardens, and Harden Ranch, or framing that will not go flat without a rebuild | A modern smooth spec or a fine later orange peel |
| Orange peel | Builder texture already on 1980s–2000s tracts, Creekbridge, and later Alisal construction | You are matching historic plaster or a factory-flat downtown kitchen |
| Skip trowel / old world | Hand pattern already in a custom or older house in South Salinas or Oldtown | You need a factory-flat wall |
| Level 4 | Smooth, normal light, flat or eggshell — most Salinas rooms | Dark paint and side light will rake the joints — common under original windows and Valley afternoon sun |
| Level 5 | A parlor, original windows, dark color, higher sheen, or a South Salinas room that takes hard light | The studs wave. A skim follows the framing — common on original ranch stock |

Oldtown vs South Salinas vs North and East Salinas
Salinas is an incorporated Monterey County city — ZIPs 93901, 93905, and 93906, Main Street, North Main, East Laurel, Blanco Road, and Highway 101. It is not Monterey and it is not one wall spec. Oldtown still holds bungalows and early houses. South Salinas mixes Craftsman, Tudor, and established stock. East Salinas / Alisal has 1950s–60s ranches and later construction. North Salinas, Harden Ranch, and Creekbridge are suburban tracts. Those rooms do not take the same spec.
The usual mismatch is a kitchen of new board meeting Oldtown plaster — or a North Salinas patch that does not match the hallway knockdown. Valley afternoon sun will show cheap taping the first day the light hits the wall. Occupied houses need dust control. Matching the house still beats a trend texture in one room.
Send a wide shot and a shot in side light. That photo decides match vs Level 4 vs Level 5 faster than a ZIP code.

Salinas Finishing FAQs
Do you do drywall finishing in Salinas?
Yes. Salinas finishing from our Fairfield shop — texture match, Level 4, Level 5, popcorn removal, and repair blend in 93901, 93905, and 93906.
Can you match orange peel or knockdown on a remodel?
Yes. That is the usual Salinas request when a kitchen meets an Oldtown bungalow, a South Salinas Craftsman, or a North Salinas ranch. Photos in side light first.
Do I need Level 5 in Salinas?
Sometimes, in rooms with original windows, dark paint, higher sheen, or hard sidelight. Eggshell in a soft-lit bedroom is usually Level 4. Original ranch framing often cannot take a Level 5 promise.
Can you skim old texture to smooth?
Often yes, if the board is sound. Old knockdown to Level 5 is more work than finishing new board. Popcorn-off-then-smooth is a common East Salinas and Sherwood Gardens ranch scope here.
Do you work in occupied Salinas houses?
Yes. We protect floors and contain dust. A whole-house skim is still a dusty job — plan rooms.
Do you work in Oldtown, South Salinas, and North Salinas?
Yes. Those areas, East Salinas / Alisal, Harden Ranch, Creekbridge, Sherwood Gardens, and streets near Main Street, North Main, East Laurel, Blanco Road, and Highway 101 are on the same finishing page. Text the street with the photos.
How much does drywall finishing cost in Salinas?
It follows the finish, the square footage, and whether we match texture or skim. Photos first. Written scope — no hidden fees.
Are you licensed in California?
Yes. CSLB #265709. Look it up before you book us or anyone else.
