Texture match or a true smooth wall. We tape, coat, and finish Richmond homes from Fairfield — knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, Level 4, or Level 5. Bay glass next to a new kitchen will show if we guess the pattern.

Which Texture Belongs on a Richmond Wall
| Finish | Use it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|---|
| Match existing | Kitchen, addition, or patch on a Point Richmond bungalow or a Hilltop ranch | The whole house is going smooth on purpose |
| Knockdown | The rest of the house already has it — common on 1950s–70s inland streets | A modern smooth spec |
| Orange peel | Builder texture already on Marina Bay, Brickyard Cove, or later townhomes | You are matching heavy knockdown |
| Skip trowel / old world | Hand pattern already in the house | You need a factory-flat wall |
| Level 4 | Smooth, normal light, flat or eggshell | Bay windows and dark paint will rake the joints |
| Level 5 | View glass, dark color, higher sheen | The studs wave. A skim follows the framing — common on 1940s stock |

Point Richmond Light vs Hilltop Ranch Streets
Richmond’s median house dates to the late 1940s, but the city is not one wall. Point Richmond still holds Victorians, cedar Craftsman bungalows, and later Brickyard Cove construction under hard bay light. Marina Bay is a former shipyard turned 1990s–2000s condos and townhomes. Hilltop and Montalvin Manor are 1950s ranch grids. Carriage Hills leans later Mediterranean. Richmond Annex, Cortez-Stege, and Belding Woods mix bungalows, mid-century streets, and plaster next to later drywall.
A cheap skim on 1940s framing will flash. A patch that does not match the rest of a Marina Bay hallway will look like a patch. Occupied condos need dust control. Dark paint on a view room more often wants Level 4 or Level 5 — and the framing has to be straight.
Send a wide shot and a shot into the window. That photo decides match vs Level 4 vs Level 5 faster than a tract name.

Richmond Finishing FAQs
Do you do drywall finishing in Richmond?
Yes. Richmond finishing from our Fairfield shop — texture match, Level 4, Level 5, popcorn removal, and repair blend.
Can you match orange peel or knockdown on a remodel?
Yes. That is the usual Richmond request when a kitchen meets Point Richmond plaster-and-drywall or Hilltop builder spray. Photos in side light first.
Do I need Level 5 in Richmond?
Only if the light and the paint need it — bay glass, dark color, satin or gloss. Eggshell in a soft-lit bedroom is usually Level 4. 1940s framing cannot take a Level 5 promise if the studs wave.
Can you skim old texture to smooth?
Often yes, if the board is sound. Old knockdown to Level 5 is more work than finishing new board. Older rooms with plaster next to later drywall need a photo first.
Do you work in occupied Richmond houses and condos?
Yes. We protect floors and contain dust. A whole-house skim is still a dusty job — plan rooms. Marina Bay and other townhomes need the same protection on shared walls.
Do you work in Point Richmond, Marina Bay, and Hilltop?
Yes. Those neighborhoods, Brickyard Cove, Carriage Hills, Richmond Annex, Cortez-Stege, and Belding Woods are on the same finishing page. Text the street with the photos.
How much does drywall finishing cost in Richmond?
It follows the finish, the square footage, and whether we match texture or skim. Photos first. Written scope — no hidden fees.
Are you licensed in California?
Yes. CSLB #265709. Look it up before you book us or anyone else.
