Drywall Finishing in Sonoma, CA

Texture match or a true smooth wall. We tape, coat, and finish Sonoma homes from Fairfield — knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, Level 4, or Level 5. A Plaza cottage next to a rebuild kitchen will show if we guess the pattern.

Sonoma Finishing, Fairfield Crew

Ron Hogan Drywall has been family-owned since 1970. We are based in Fairfield, not a Broadway storefront. This page is drywall finishing and drywall texture in the city of Sonoma, CA — the Plaza, in-town streets, East Sonoma, and streets near Spain Street, Napa Street, Broadway, and Highway 12.

Text “Sonoma” with the photo. If the scope is hang-and-finish or a real texture match, we schedule it.

Finishing We Do in Sonoma

Tape, mud, and sand

Joints and fasteners coated the right number of times. This is the work under every texture and every smooth wall.

Texture match

A kitchen, addition, or rebuild that has to look like the plaster, knockdown, or orange peel already in the house — including Plaza cottages and later in-town interiors. Textures →

Level 4 smooth

The usual painted wall under flat or eggshell in normal light. Most bedrooms and hallways live here.

Level 5 skim

Full-field skim for dark paint, higher sheen, original windows, or a parlor with hard sidelight. Framing has to be straight first. Level 4 & 5 →

Popcorn off, new finish on

Remove older ceiling texture on mid-century stock, repair the board, then knockdown, orange peel, or smooth. A real Sonoma ranch and cottage scope. Popcorn removal →

Repair that disappears

Water cuts, holes, and cracks finished to the surrounding texture. Occupied houses included. Repair →

Which Texture Belongs on a Sonoma Wall

Finish Use it when Skip it when
Match existing Kitchen, addition, or rebuild meeting a Plaza cottage, an in-town bungalow, or a later East Sonoma hallway The whole house is going smooth on purpose
Knockdown Mid-century rooms or framing that will not go flat without a rebuild A modern smooth spec or a fine later orange peel
Orange peel Builder texture already on later in-town interiors and 1970s–1990s stock You are matching historic plaster or a factory-flat Plaza kitchen
Skip trowel / old world Hand pattern already in a Victorian, adobe-era remodel, or custom house near the Plaza You need a factory-flat wall
Level 4 Smooth, normal light, flat or eggshell — most Sonoma rooms Dark paint and side light will rake the joints — common under original windows
Level 5 A parlor, original windows, dark color, higher sheen, or a room that takes hard valley sidelight The studs wave. A skim follows the framing — common on original cottage and ranch stock

The Plaza vs In-Town vs East Sonoma

This page is the city of Sonoma — ZIP 95476, the Plaza, Broadway, Spain Street, Napa Street, and Highway 12. It is not Santa Rosa and it is not the whole county. Plaza-side houses still hold cottages, adobe-era remodeled interiors, and original windows. In-town streets take more house and more light. East Sonoma and later valley stock already have builder texture. Those rooms do not take the same spec.

Boyes Hot Springs, El Verano, and Temelec often mail as Sonoma 95476. They are not the Plaza. Text the street. The usual mismatch is a kitchen of new board meeting Plaza plaster — or a later patch that does not match the hallway orange peel. Afternoon valley sun will show cheap taping the first day the light hits the wall.

Send a wide shot and a shot in side light. That photo decides match vs Level 4 vs Level 5 faster than a ZIP code.

Sonoma Finishing FAQs

Do you do drywall finishing in Sonoma?

Yes. City of Sonoma finishing from our Fairfield shop — texture match, Level 4, Level 5, popcorn removal, and repair blend in 95476.

Can you match orange peel or knockdown on a remodel?

Yes. That is the usual Sonoma request when a kitchen meets a Plaza cottage, an in-town bungalow, or a later East Sonoma hallway. Photos in side light first.

Do I need Level 5 in Sonoma?

Sometimes, in rooms with original windows, dark paint, higher sheen, or hard valley sidelight. Eggshell in a soft-lit bedroom is usually Level 4. Original cottage framing often cannot take a Level 5 promise.

Can you skim old texture to smooth?

Often yes, if the board is sound. Old knockdown to Level 5 is more work than finishing new board. Popcorn-off-then-smooth is a common mid-century scope here.

Do you work in occupied Sonoma houses?

Yes. We protect floors and contain dust. A whole-house skim is still a dusty job — plan rooms.

Do you work on the Plaza, in-town, and in East Sonoma?

Yes. Those areas and streets near Broadway, Spain Street, Napa Street, and Highway 12 are on the same finishing page. Valley addresses that mail as Sonoma 95476 should text the street with the photos.

How much does drywall finishing cost in Sonoma?

It follows the finish, the square footage, and whether we match texture or skim. Photos first. Written scope — no hidden fees.

Are you licensed in California?

Yes. CSLB #265709. Look it up before you book us or anyone else.
