Drywall Finishing in Davis, CA
Texture match or a true smooth wall. We tape, coat, and finish Davis homes from Fairfield — knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, Level 4, or Level 5. A downtown bungalow next to a rebuild kitchen will show if we guess the pattern.

Finishing We Do in Davis
Tape, mud, and sand
Joints and fasteners coated the right number of times. This is the work under every texture and every smooth wall.
Texture match
A kitchen, addition, or rebuild that has to look like the plaster, knockdown, or orange peel already in the house — including core bungalows and later Mace Ranch interiors. Textures →
Level 4 smooth
The usual painted wall under flat or eggshell in normal light. Most bedrooms and hallways live here.
Level 5 skim
Full-field skim for dark paint, higher sheen, original windows, or a room with hard sidelight. Framing has to be straight first. Level 4 & 5 →
Popcorn off, new finish on
Remove older ceiling texture on mid-century ranch stock, repair the board, then knockdown, orange peel, or smooth. A common East Davis and North Davis scope. Popcorn removal →
Repair that disappears
Water cuts, holes, and cracks finished to the surrounding texture. Occupied houses included. Repair →
Which Texture Belongs on a Davis Wall
| Finish | Use it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|---|
| Match existing | Kitchen, addition, or rebuild meeting a downtown bungalow, a North Davis ranch, or a later Mace Ranch hallway | The whole house is going smooth on purpose |
| Knockdown | Mid-century rooms or framing that will not go flat without a rebuild | A modern smooth spec or a fine later orange peel |
| Orange peel | Builder texture already on Mace Ranch, South Davis, and later interiors | You are matching historic plaster or a factory-flat downtown kitchen |
| Skip trowel / old world | Hand pattern already in a custom house near El Macero or the core | You need a factory-flat wall |
| Level 4 | Smooth, normal light, flat or eggshell — most Davis rooms | Dark paint and side light will rake the joints — common under original windows |
| Level 5 | A parlor, original windows, dark color, higher sheen, or a room that takes hard Central Valley sidelight | The studs wave. A skim follows the framing — common on original bungalow and ranch stock |

Downtown vs North Davis vs Mace Ranch vs El Macero
Davis is an incorporated Yolo County city — ZIP 95616 north of Interstate 80 and west of Pole Line Road, ZIP 95618 south of I-80 and east toward Mace Ranch and El Macero. It is not Woodland and it is not Sacramento. Downtown and the core still hold bungalows and original windows near campus. North and East Davis mix 1950s ranches. Mace Ranch and South Davis already have builder texture. El Macero takes another light. Those rooms do not take the same spec.
The usual mismatch is a kitchen of new board meeting core plaster — or a later tract patch that does not match the hallway orange peel. Central Valley sun will show cheap taping the first afternoon the light hits the wall. Occupied houses need dust control. Matching the house still beats a trend texture in one room.
Send a wide shot and a shot in side light. That photo decides match vs Level 4 vs Level 5 faster than a ZIP code.

Davis Finishing FAQs
Do you do drywall finishing in Davis?
Yes. Davis finishing from our Fairfield shop — texture match, Level 4, Level 5, popcorn removal, and repair blend in 95616 and 95618.
Can you match orange peel or knockdown on a remodel?
Yes. That is the usual Davis request when a kitchen meets a downtown bungalow, a North Davis ranch, or a later Mace Ranch hallway. Photos in side light first.
Do I need Level 5 in Davis?
Sometimes, in rooms with original windows, dark paint, higher sheen, or hard Central Valley sidelight. Eggshell in a soft-lit bedroom is usually Level 4. Original bungalow and ranch framing often cannot take a Level 5 promise.
Can you skim old texture to smooth?
Often yes, if the board is sound. Old knockdown to Level 5 is more work than finishing new board. Popcorn-off-then-smooth is a common mid-century scope here.
Do you work in occupied Davis houses?
Yes. We protect floors and contain dust. A whole-house skim is still a dusty job — plan rooms.
Do you work Downtown, in Mace Ranch, and in El Macero?
Yes. Those areas, North Davis, East Davis, South Davis, and streets near Pole Line Road, Mace Boulevard, Highway 113, and Interstate 80 are on the same finishing page. Text the street with the photos.
How much does drywall finishing cost in Davis?
It follows the finish, the square footage, and whether we match texture or skim. Photos first. Written scope — no hidden fees.
Are you licensed in California?
Yes. CSLB #265709. Look it up before you book us or anyone else.
