Drywall Finishing in Fresno, CA
Drywall finishing and drywall texture in Fresno — texture match or a true smooth wall. We tape, coat, and finish Fresno homes from Fairfield: knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, Level 4, or Level 5. A Tower District bungalow next to a rebuild kitchen will show if we guess the pattern.
Fresno Finishing, Fairfield Crew
Ron Hogan Drywall has been family-owned since 1970. We are based in Fairfield, not a Fresno storefront. This page is drywall finishing and drywall texture in Fresno, CA — Downtown and Van Ness, the Tower District on Olive and Wishon, Fig Garden, Huntington Boulevard, Bullard, Woodward Park, Sunnyside, Fig Garden Loop, and homes near Highway 99, Highway 41, Highway 180, and Highway 168.
Text “Fresno” with the photo. If the scope is hang-and-finish or a real texture match, we schedule it.
Finishing We Do in Fresno
Tape, mud, and sand
Joints and fasteners coated the right number of times. This is the work under every texture and every smooth wall from 93701 to 93727 and the north-side ZIPs.
Texture match
A kitchen, addition, or rebuild that has to look like the plaster, knockdown, or orange peel already in the house — including Tower District bungalows, Fig Garden interiors, Huntington rooms, and later Woodward Park hallways. Textures →
Level 4 smooth
The usual painted wall under flat or eggshell in normal light. Most bedrooms and hallways live here.
Level 5 skim
Full-field skim for dark paint, higher sheen, original windows in Fig Garden and the Tower District, or a room with hard Central Valley sidelight. Framing has to be straight first. Level 4 & 5 →
Popcorn off, new finish on
Remove older ceiling texture on mid-century ranch stock, repair the board, then knockdown, orange peel, or smooth. A common central-Fresno and 1950s–70s scope. Popcorn removal →
Repair that disappears
Water cuts, holes, and cracks finished to the surrounding texture. Occupied houses included. Repair →
Which Texture Belongs on a Fresno Wall
| Finish | Use it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|---|
| Match existing | Kitchen, addition, or rebuild meeting a Tower District bungalow, a Fig Garden hallway, a Huntington house, or a later Woodward Park interior | The whole house is going smooth on purpose |
| Knockdown | Mid-century rooms or framing that will not go flat without a rebuild | A modern smooth spec or a fine later orange peel |
| Orange peel | Builder texture already on later interiors, Woodward Park rooms, Fig Garden Loop, Sunnyside, and 1980s–2000s north-side streets | You are matching historic plaster or a factory-flat Tower or Fig Garden kitchen |
| Skip trowel / old world | Hand pattern already in a restored core house or a custom rebuild | You need a factory-flat wall |
| Level 4 | Smooth, normal light, flat or eggshell — most Fresno rooms | Dark paint and side light will rake the joints — common under original windows |
| Level 5 | A parlor, original windows, dark color, higher sheen, or a room that takes hard Central Valley sidelight | The studs wave. A skim follows the framing — common on original Tower, Fig Garden, and ranch stock |

Tower and Fig Garden vs Central Ranch vs Woodward Park
Fresno is the seat of Fresno County on Highway 99, Highway 41, Highway 180, and Highway 168. It is not Clovis and it is not Madera. Downtown and Van Ness still hold older rooms. The Tower District — Olive Avenue, Wishon, Echo, and the blocks around the Tower Theatre — keeps 1920s–30s Craftsman, Tudor, and Mediterranean cottages. Fig Garden and Huntington Boulevard keep estate lots, original windows, and plaster-era interiors. Central Fresno takes mid-century ranch. Woodward Park, Bullard, Fig Garden Loop, and Sunnyside take later builder texture. Those rooms do not take the same spec.
The usual mismatch is a kitchen of new board meeting a Tower bungalow or a Fig Garden hallway — or a later patch that does not match the north-side orange peel. Valley sun off Blackstone, Shaw, Herndon, Palm, and Van Ness will show cheap taping the first afternoon the light hits the wall. Occupied houses need dust control. Matching the house still beats a trend texture in one room.
Send a wide shot and a shot in side light. That photo decides match vs Level 4 vs Level 5 faster than a ZIP code.

Fresno Finishing FAQs
Do you do drywall finishing in Fresno?
Yes. Fresno finishing from our Fairfield shop — texture match, Level 4, Level 5, popcorn removal, and repair blend in the Tower District, Fig Garden, Woodward Park, Sunnyside, and the rest of town.
Can you match orange peel or knockdown on a remodel?
Yes. That is the usual Fresno request when a kitchen meets a Tower District bungalow, a Fig Garden hallway, a Huntington house, or a later Woodward Park room. Photos in side light first.
Do I need Level 5 in Fresno?
Sometimes, in rooms with original windows, dark paint, higher sheen, or hard Central Valley sidelight — common in Fig Garden and the Tower District. Eggshell in a soft-lit bedroom is usually Level 4. Original downtown and ranch framing often cannot take a Level 5 promise.
Can you skim old texture to smooth?
Often yes, if the board is sound. Old knockdown to Level 5 is more work than finishing new board. Popcorn-off-then-smooth is a common mid-century scope here.
Do you work in occupied Fresno houses?
Yes. We protect floors and contain dust. A whole-house skim is still a dusty job — plan rooms.
Do you work in the Tower District, Fig Garden, and Woodward Park?
Yes. Downtown, Van Ness, the Tower District, Fig Garden, Huntington Boulevard, Bullard, Woodward Park, Sunnyside, Fig Garden Loop, and homes near Highway 99, Highway 41, Highway 180, and Highway 168 are on the same finishing page. Text the street with the photos.
How much does drywall finishing cost in Fresno?
It follows the finish, the square footage, and whether we match texture or skim. Photos first. Written scope — no hidden fees.
Are you licensed in California?
Yes. CSLB #265709. Look it up before you book us or anyone else.
