Texture match or a true smooth wall. We tape, coat, and finish Alameda homes from Fairfield — knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, Level 4, or Level 5. New drywall next to original plaster will show if we guess the pattern.
Alameda Finishing, Fairfield Crew

Text “Alameda” with the photo. If the scope is hang-and-finish or a real texture match, we schedule it.
Finishing We Do in Alameda
Tape, mud, and sand
Joints and fasteners coated the right number of times. This is the work under every texture and every smooth wall.

A kitchen, addition, or patch that has to look like the orange peel, knockdown, or plaster already in the house. Textures →
Level 4 smooth
The usual painted wall under flat or eggshell in normal light. Most bedrooms and hallways live here.
Level 5 skim
Full-field skim for bay glass, dark paint, or higher sheen. Framing has to be straight first. Level 4 & 5 →
Popcorn off, new finish on
Remove the ceiling texture on later mid-century and Harbor Bay stock, repair the board, then knockdown, orange peel, or smooth. Popcorn removal →

Which Texture Belongs on an Alameda Wall
| Finish | Use it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|---|
| Match existing | Kitchen, addition, or patch meeting Gold Coast plaster or Harbor Bay spray | The whole house is going smooth on purpose |
| Knockdown | The rest of the house already has it — common on later island additions | A modern smooth spec |
| Orange peel | Builder texture already on Harbor Bay, Bay Farm, South Shore condos, or Alameda Landing | You are matching heavy knockdown or old plaster |
| Skip trowel / old world | Hand pattern already in the house | You need a factory-flat wall |
| Level 4 | Smooth, normal light, flat or eggshell | Bay windows and dark paint will rake the joints |
| Level 5 | View glass, dark color, higher sheen | The studs wave or the room is plaster-plus-drywall. A skim follows the framing |

Gold Coast Plaster vs Harbor Bay Spray
Alameda is two maps. The main island still holds thousands of Victorians, Queen Annes, Craftsman bungalows, and original plaster — Gold Coast, Fernside, East End, West End. South Shore mixed mid-century streets with later condos after the tidelands fill. Harbor Bay and Bay Farm Island (94502) are planned 1970s-onward neighborhoods with lagoons, townhomes, and factory orange peel. Alameda Point is former Naval Air Station land filling in with new construction. Alameda Landing is later waterfront infill.
The usual mismatch is a kitchen of new board meeting original plaster — or a Harbor Bay patch that does not match the hallway. Bay air and moisture matter on wet rooms before we finish. Occupied historic houses need dust control. Dark paint on a view room more often wants Level 4 or Level 5 — and the framing has to be straight.
Send a wide shot and a shot into the window. That photo decides match vs Level 4 vs Level 5 faster than a tract name.

Alameda Finishing FAQs
Do you do drywall finishing in Alameda?
Yes. Alameda finishing from our Fairfield shop — texture match, Level 4, Level 5, popcorn removal, and repair blend in 94501 and 94502.
Can you match orange peel or knockdown on a remodel?
Yes. That is the usual Alameda request when a kitchen meets Gold Coast plaster or Harbor Bay builder spray. Photos in side light first.
Do I need Level 5 in Alameda?
Only if the light and the paint need it — bay glass, dark color, satin or gloss. Eggshell in a soft-lit bedroom is usually Level 4. Plaster-plus-drywall rooms often cannot take a Level 5 promise if the plane is uneven.
Can you skim old texture or plaster to smooth?
Often yes, if the wall is sound. Old knockdown or mixed plaster-and-drywall to Level 5 is more work than finishing new board. Photos first.
Do you work in occupied Alameda houses and condos?
Yes. We protect floors and contain dust. A whole-house skim is still a dusty job — plan rooms. Harbor Bay townhomes and South Shore condos need the same protection on shared walls.
Do you work on Gold Coast, Harbor Bay, and Alameda Point?
Yes. Those areas, Fernside, East End, West End, South Shore, Bay Farm Island, and Alameda Landing are on the same finishing page. Text the street with the photos.
How much does drywall finishing cost in Alameda?
It follows the finish, the square footage, and whether we match texture or skim. Photos first. Written scope — no hidden fees.
Are you licensed in California?
Yes. CSLB #265709. Look it up before you book us or anyone else.
