Steel / Metal Stud Framing in San Pedro, CA

Light-gauge steel and metal stud framing in San Pedro — interior partitions, tenant-improvement walls, soffits, and fire-rated assemblies. We frame the wall so the drywall stays flat: Downtown on 6th and 7th, Gaffey and Pacific corridors, West Harbor build-outs, and hillside rooms in Point Fermin, South Shores, and Vista del Oro. A harbor TI and a Vinegar Hill remodel are not the same stud job.

San Pedro Framing, Fairfield Crew

Ron Hogan Drywall has been family-owned since 1970. We are based in Fairfield, not a San Pedro storefront. This page is steel / metal stud framing in San Pedro, CA — Downtown and the harbor grid, Gaffey Street, Pacific Avenue, Harbor Boulevard, 6th Street, 7th Street, 9th Street, Western Avenue, Paseo Del Mar, and homes in Barton Hill, Plaza, The Avenues, Holy Trinity, Point Fermin, Palisades, South Shores, and Vista del Oro.

Metal Stud Work We Do in San Pedro

Interior partition walls

Track, studs, and bracing for new rooms, office layouts, and non-load-bearing walls in 90731 and 90732. This is the skeleton the board hangs on.

Tenant improvement framing

Retail, office, and waterfront build-outs on Gaffey, Pacific, Downtown, and West Harbor. If the drawing says steel studs, that is the bid. Commercial framing →

Soffits, bulkheads, and chases

Dropped ceilings, mechanical wraps, and framed openings so boxes, ducts, and lights have a home before drywall.

Fire-rated and heavier-gauge walls

Listed assemblies, Type X board later, and heavier studs when the plan or the engineer calls for them. The rating is the whole wall — not the stud alone.

Remodel and ADU partitions

New interior steel walls inside an existing San Pedro house when the finish needs a straighter plane than bowed lumber. Wood structure stays wood unless the plan says otherwise. Metal vs wood →

Frame and hang together

One crew frames the metal, hangs the board, and can finish it. Split bids leave missing backing and wavy walls. Services →

Which Stud Belongs on a San Pedro Job

Stud Use it when Skip it when
Light-gauge metal (what we frame) Office TI, retail, Downtown partitions, West Harbor interiors, rated commercial walls, or a house remodel that needs a flat plane for Level 4 / Level 5 You need beams and columns that hold the building up — that is structural steel, a different contractor
25-ga interior studs Short, non-load-bearing partitions with a normal finish Tall walls, high-abuse corridors, or a spec that names 20-ga or heavier
20-ga / heavier track and studs Taller walls, door-heavy TI, commercial corridors, or engineer notes A simple closet that never needed the extra gauge
Wood studs Most San Pedro house walls with no commercial spec — bungalows, Craftsman rooms, hillside bedrooms The plan already says steel, or the finish will show every bow
Furring / hat channel on masonry Concrete or block walls that need a cavity for boxes before drywall Glue-only board on a finished living space

Harbor Grid vs Gaffey Corridor vs Hillside Streets

San Pedro is a Los Angeles neighborhood — ZIPs 90731 and 90732 — on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the Port of Los Angeles. It is not Long Beach and it is not Rancho Palos Verdes. Downtown still holds the old grid around 6th Street, 7th Street, Pacific Avenue, and Harbor Boulevard. Those rooms take commercial TI, loft conversions, and occupied storefronts. Gaffey Street and Western Avenue take corridor retail and offices. Point Fermin, South Shores, Palisades, and Vista del Oro take hillside houses, Craftsman stock, and coastal light.

The usual mismatch is treating a West Harbor or Downtown partition like a bedroom 2×4 — or promising Level 5 on a wall that was never framed flat. Harbor air and salt do not make metal magic. Galvanized light-gauge steel is not food for termites and it does not twist like wet lumber. It will still rust if the coating is cut and the wall stays wet. Occupied houses and open businesses need a clean layout, backing for cabinets and TVs, and a stud plane the finish can live with.

Send the plan sheet or a wide shot of the room. That photo decides wood hang-only vs new metal studs faster than a ZIP code.

San Pedro Metal Stud FAQs

Do you do steel / metal stud framing in San Pedro?

Yes. Interior light-gauge metal stud framing in San Pedro, CA 90731–90732 from our Fairfield shop — partitions, TI walls, soffits, heavier-gauge spec walls, and frame-and-hang.

Is this structural steel?

No. We frame interior light-gauge studs, track, headers, and soffits. Beams and columns that hold the building up are a different contractor.

Do San Pedro houses use metal studs or wood?

Most house walls here are still wood. Metal wins on commercial TI, rated partitions, and remodels that need a straighter plane for a smooth finish. If the drawing names the stud, that wins.

Will harbor air rust metal studs?

Galvanizing helps. Standing water and cut coating do not. Metal studs are not a submarine and they are not a mold-proof building by themselves. Keep the cavity dry and close the wall the right way.

Do you work occupied San Pedro buildings?

Yes. Floors are protected and the layout is planned around an open shop or an occupied house. A full TI is still a construction job — plan rooms.

Do you work Downtown, on Gaffey, and in Point Fermin?

Yes. 6th Street, 7th Street, Pacific Avenue, Harbor Boulevard, Gaffey Street, Western Avenue, West Harbor, Barton Hill, Plaza, The Avenues, Point Fermin, South Shores, Palisades, and Vista del Oro are on the same framing page. Text the street with the photos.

How much does metal stud framing cost in San Pedro?

It follows the gauge, wall height, how cut-up the layout is, fire rating, access, and whether we only frame or also hang and finish. Photos or plans first. Written scope — no hidden fees.

Are you licensed in California?

Yes. CSLB #265709. Look it up before you book us or anyone else.
